Imphal, Nagaland, June 14 (HBTV): A Naga community organization in Manipur has debarred the Congress party's newly elected Member of Parliament Alfred Kangnam Arthur representing the state and two others from holding any position in the community for seven years.

A statement from the United Naga Council said the organization has adopted a resolution to debar three individuals namely Kho John of the Poumai tribe, Dr. Allyson Abonmai of the Liangmai tribe, and Alfred Kangnam Arthur of the Tangkhul tribe ‘from public platforms and holding any position or leadership in the Naga society for a period of seven years with immediate effect.’

According to a public notification issued by the UNC's information and publicity secretary on Thursday, the resolution was adopted during the organization’s emergency assembly on May 29 in Chandel district of Manipur. It directed all the constituent units, subordinate/associate units of the council and Naga populace to uphold the resolution of the UNC and enforce accordingly in their respective jurisdiction.

The statement declared that the three ‘purposively defied and failed to respect and honor the position of the United Naga Council in the recently concluded 18th Lok Sabha general election and their willful attempt to challenge the Naga peoples’ position and its spirit of unity.’

John and Abonmai contested as independents.
